New Zmud Idea |
Hi Guys,
I have been think for a while now and i'm wondering in the next version of zmud, can we get a new backround option instead of just a colour make it so a graphic can be used
and also just another idea i just had could zmud be make skinable so people can make there own skins like you can do with winamp |

I've looked into that into the past. Doing a background image significantly slows down the text scrolling from the MUD. Most people using zMUD care more about speed and performance than how the window looks. Skins have been discussed in the past, but for a text-based app like zMUD, all that you'd be able to change is the borders of the windows, which isn't very exciting. Not to mention that it would be a lot of work to get something that worked on all versions of Windows.

well it may slow down the text on some machines, but for the people who have fast ones like myself would like to be able to set a backround, i know a few people who would like to do this with zmud and cant
So if u make it so u can set a colour or an image everyone will be happy |

Would probably have to use a DirectX/OpenGL drawing surface for the text output to have a chance to put a background image.

You can already set a plain color, just not an image. And as Rorso said, doing an image efficiently would require converting zMUD to use DirectX, which would make zMUD unusable on older versions of Windows such as WinNT. In any case, it's very very low on my priority list. Most people who care about looks and graphics are playing graphical MMORPGs rather than MUDs.

my computer is FAST. or at least what i would consider fast. 5.12mb ram . 64mb vram, 160gig hd 2.8ghz.
frankly.. zmud still lags when im seriously multiplaying. fancy lil colors and backgrouns are the LAST thing i want in zmud to be wasting more computing power. |

Use transparency and play over your wallpaper.

And talk like that is what makes Zugg think something might even be a lower priority than it already is
