Quite a few mapping problems I'm having |
The mud I'm on uses a {XX color system, where {XX means 'set color for following text to XX. When I'm running the mapper, it will not pick up the colors, and so will not think its really a room. Also, the mapper recognizes the very first line containing directions, it thinks that is the direction line. How can I set the mapper so it recognizes the direction line as:
[Obvious Exits: north east south]
instead of it doing "The exit to the training grounds is north and a ways east," and completely missing a direction.
Also, how can i make it stop placing doors entirely, and only map when I enter movement commands? I haven't run into a single door or portal or arch, yet between almost every room it places that little hash symbol for a door.
And last but not least, why does the mapper sometimes place the room in a random direction from the initial room? In one run going north along a road on which I could go north 20 or 30 times, it did the following
i.e - I move north
Mapper creates room south
- I move north
creates room east
- north
room east
- north
room north
- north
room south
I'm completely at a loss on these problems. thanks for any help you can give me |

To answer your first question, the mappers detection system is not based on color unless you build a specific set of triggers with the #TAG command. This is often a tricky proccess and as the help file suggests 'a last resort'.
Your seccond question, that of proper exit detection: you should manually enter into the mapper configuration, in the box for "Exitline keyword", "Obvious exits:"; and check the box "Exitline contains key". You should then reconfigure so the mapper adjusts all the other values to be correct.
The automatic placement of doors is option. This comes into play when the mapper creates a room in a direction that didn't have an exit recognized in that direction. Proper exit detection should bring this into line. If you wish instead to turn it off entirely it is in the "Strings and Doors" section of the mapper configuration.
The reason the mapper is creating rooms in a direction other than what you just moved is because you had an unresolved move in another direction. There is a box in the bottom right of the mapper window that shows what direction it is currently expecting movement to occur in. The most common way for that queue to become out of synch with your movements is by running into a wall, door, or other thing that keeps you from moving that direction. To tell the mapper that the movement failed you must create a trigger with the #NODIR command. This is most easily done by using the Simple Trigger Wizard. I would also suugest reading the help on Configuring the Mapper and #NODIR. |
