gibberish text with triggers enabled

whenever i enable my triggers all of the text turns into gibberish such as the following. Anybody heard of this before?

You have a trigger which substitutes "smattering" for "a". It seems pretty stupid to me, since all it does it make it harder for you to understand what's going on, but whatever amuses you...
If you don't like it, delete the trigger (it'll be the one with the pattern of "a" and the value of "#SUB smattering"). |
