zMUD disconnectects after a short amt of time |
It seems if I leave zMUD running for 15 minutes or longer while idle, it disconnects me and takes over 10 minutes to get any kind of connection from it again. I'm running zMUD 7.05. Pretty sure it's not the mud, because it's happened to me on 2 different muds. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

This recently happened again, only this time while I was playing, and again it had a really bad time reconnecting.

This sounds like a network issue.
Using tracert and/or ping at the command prompt will show whether this is the case. |

Everything else works just fine, it's just the mud(s) that disconnect, Aim,MSN,Yahoo,Kazaalite etc., nothing else seems to lag at all...I switched over to Wintin and it did just fine, but I can't stand not having my client

1. What MUDs did you get the disconnection issue with?
2. Did it disconnect you during idling or active play?
3. About how long time had you been online?
4. Does the MUD use Mud Compression?
5. Do you have any other applications accessing the internet when this happens? (like icq in the background)
Something important to remember is that most MUDs disconnect you automatically if you have been idle too long. (WinTin could be sending some keep-alive signal). |

1. mud.astrakan.hig.se:4080,ichaos.com:4080
2. Both
3. Over 19 hours....but Your idle limit is currently set to 32 years 39 weeks 3 days 1 hour 50 minutes 50 seconds.
4. No
5. Yes, Kazaalite,Aim,MSN,Yahoo, but I have a 1512k connection, no way it's using all of that speed... |

Both MUDs seem to be of the same type so if there is any error in the server code it isn't unlikely both have it. Is that really 32 real life years?
The reason I asked about the other internet applications is that they would most likely be disconnected too if there is some obvious network issue. However the issue could be some router in the path to the MUD servers.

When this happens on mud.astrakan.hig.se you might want to attempt to ping the server to see if there is some networking issue. Example: "ping mud.astrakan.hig.se" - it wont work on ichaos.com though as they don't seem to support ping. |
