Errors Occured? |
I have no idea why this started happening, I just signed on to my internet and AIM as normal, loaded up zMUD (v6.40). Everything is fine, but now for some reason, when I double click the icon (or any other icons for that matter) to load Achaea, i get a message saying "Errors Occured" and I click OK and thats it... it just stays there, and I can't do anything. I try to close zMUD, and I get the message again. I had to CTRL+ALT+DEL to get out of it, and I still got the error but it finally closed when it was forced to. The only thing I've done different since my last login was that I re-installed a game... but I'm not sure how that would affect it... any suggestions?

sometimes this happens to me and i usually have to shut down and try again.but if ti
is happening to you the you need to reinstall Zmud.
Most likely when you reinstalled this game it changed a shared file and caused a problem just make a backup copy and reinsta;; Zmud
that should fix the problem.Sorry no easy soultion to this one I think.

When I posted the last message, I did reinstall zMUD. I have a backup copy too. But that didn't work. Now, instead of getting to the screen where you double click the name of the mud you want to play, it gets that "Errors Occured" message when its loading and the box appears in the middle of the screen. It loads somethings, and then it stops, "Errors Occured", I click OK, and then its just frozen. Won't even load up the screen where you double click the mud you want to play. I also uninstalled the game, but it didn't seem to work.

What happens when you create a new character for a mud you don't play.
Can you reproduce it with another mud with "blank" settings?
Could it be you have a very bad corruption in your settings for Achaea?
What version of zMud? What system are you running it on?

I can't even get to the place where you create more characters.
I doubt its a badfile, because it worked before and the only things I changed were my aliases to envenom my swords because they were shortswords but I changed it to longswords, that's the only thing I changed, and before then it worked fine.
I'm using zMUD v 6.40 and running windows 98.
I'm going to put back my backupfiles and try to do the creating a new character thing and I'll post what happens. |

OK, I put my old settings into the zMUD folder, and this is what happened:
I didn't get the "Errors Occured" message while loading, it happened again in the same place where I select which mud to connect to.
I went to "New" to connect to a new mud, and when I click "Connect" I get the message again saying "Errors Occured." Every button on the top on that screen makes an "Error Occured" message. Quit worked this time though, I didn't need to CTRL+ALT+DEL this time. |

I copied all my files to another location again, and did another re-install. It started to convert the mudlist.txt file and when that was done the "Errors Occured" message came back, and it was frozen there. I don't know if this means anything, but it happens when it's loading "Main Module." Can anyone help?

I searched the forums and get:
Errors Occured
Zugg has to say
quote:
There isn't any error message in zMUD that just says "errors occured" so that sounds more like something wrong on your computer system.
Have a look at http://www.zuggsoft.com/data to see if you need some things updated.

I downloaded the files on that page, and installed them, restarted my computer. Now when I double click the icon to start the mud, I get this error message:
"Data provider or other service returned an E_FAIL status."
What do I do for this? |

Only other similar in the forums is this.
Probably gives the best advice as well:
quote:
Perhaps it's eLicense. Try e-mailing Zugg for more information.

Well, I got the email, and it said to do the same thing I already did. Downloading that JET and MDCA (or something like that... forgot the letters) I already did that, it just changed the "Errors Occured" to the other message. I'm just going to quickrestore. Going to try and save my aliases, triggers, etc, etc. Which file is the one that has the information for those? I'm going to save them on a floppy disk and quick restore. Thanks for your help.

"Data provider or other service returned an E_FAIL status." has nothing to do with eLicense. That is an error message from the ADO/MDAC system software. So, there must still be something wrong with either the MDAC or Jet files. You can try running the MDAC Check program linked in http://www.zuggsoft.com/data to see if it detects any problems with the installation.
You also might want to try using the Compress and Repair utility on your CHARDB.MDB file to see if that helps.
Everyone should keep in mind that eLicense errors only occur when you first run zMUD. Once you start seeing the zMUD Initialization splash screen, then eLicense is completely done with it's work and doesn't get in the way anymore.
The only eLicense error that can happen when you are actually running zMUD and connected to a MUD is the "Corrupt Application" error.

I already quick restored, and it's working fine now. But I saved lots of files from zMUD before I quick restored. They're on a floppy disk. Could someone tell me which file saves all your aliases, triggers, classess, macros, variables, etc, etc?

That would probably be the achaea.mud file (for Achaea).
