Charges |
I can't seem to find anything on it, does cmud still have the license charge every year or was it changed to a one time fee?

It's every two years not one year and it only applies to major version upgrades. So far there have been no further charges for anyone who has purchased CMUD.

Also (as a point of clarification) there will be no automatic charges. If you wish to move to the next major version (outside of the two year window) then you will have to pay the upgrade price (half whatever the current price of CMUD is at that time) and that grants you another 2 year upgrade window.
Major upgrades are 1.x to 2.x or 2.x to 3.x. Minor upgrades are 2.xx to 2.yy. |

Is there a window of time between purchase and major upgrade?
As an example, I purchase 2.47 today. Tomorrow 3.00 comes out.
Did i just get screwed and lost out?
Or is that covered by the 2 year window? AFTER 2 years and 2 major upgrades, cmud 5 comes out, THEN I have to pay but didn't have to pay for CMUD 4?
Not saying this will happen anytime soon, but just curious.
It's almost the end of the year, Zugg's made a special offer...there COULD be a major release coming soon...never know. |

If you purchase CMUD today, you'll have access to upgrades for *at least* 2 years. So far its been over 2 years and there haven't been any new charges yet.
After the 2 years if you want to continue upgrading there will be an upgrade charge of 1/2 of whatever the current price for CMUD is, and that gets you another 2 year window. |

Yes, Vitae. Only major versions need to be paid for again, and you get two free years of major-version upgrades. So for two years after you buy CMUD 2.xx, you get all new versions of CMUD free. If, at least 730 days after you bought CMUD, CMUD 5.01 comes out, you'll need to pay again, and you'll get free upgrades again for two years. You never need to pay for upgrades from, say, 5.01 to 5.02 - only major versions count.
I say "at least" because the system's not been needed yet and thus hasn't been used. I think the current plan is that beta versions of 3.xx will be free to use, but the 3.xx public version will require a new license if you bought CMUD more than two years ago.
TL;DR version: no, you won't be screwed. Zuggsoft's just not that sort of company.
EDIT: Beaten :( |

Oh, i know! I didn't mean screwed like that.
I meant in the sense that anyone would say, "Dang. If i'd waited a day, I coulda gotten that WII for $50 cheaper AND had a bundle pack. Wish i woulda known about that upcoming sale!"
Didn't mean to imply that Zugg would screw someone on purpose and not be willing to work with them :-) |

Ah, okay. And, well, there's the potential for that - if a new version comes out just a couple of days after your two years expire, you'll have to pay again. But you could also get lucky and have it come out a couple of days before your two years expire, giving you that version for free. Or it could come out when you have six months left and the next major version doesn't come out until six months have passed after your two years expire. It's just a probability thing.
