Using my Zmud on my schools computers? |
Hey, I have a question:
Can I use Zmud on my schools computer, or have it on say my USB drive so I can use it on different computers? As I understand it, you get 3 licenses, but what if you have a license, and just want to use it at school? The same computer will probably not be available to you everytime.
So is it possible to use zmud in school, or am I screwed? =P |

Screwed.
Armadillo, the copy protection software, needs admin rights to install locally onto the computer which is why zMUD can't be used on a USB drive.
You may have admin rights available to you at school but since you need to move round computers this means you need to unlicense the computer you just used, unlicensing uses up the code you just used to license with so you can't use it again and you can only apply for a certain number of licenses in a period of time from the Zuggsoft store.
If you were to choose to leave the computers licensed then that would be illegal because anyone could come along and use zMUD. |

At the moment there's no way to transfer zMUD on a usb drive, since it needs to be installed properly to function.
There is a slim chance that CMUD will work on U3 drives in the future (a type of USB drive) that allows an installed application to be made portable, because the type of software protection used is supported by U3 drives.
Zugg's not promised anything though, and it'll be low priority as CMUD still has bugs to iron out before new features are introduced. So at the moment then you'd need to install each time you used it. |

Technically, you could have your zmud on the USB drive and play on the school computer so long as you dont go over the 30 day trial, and even if you do, the computer labs usually have several computers to choose from.
I did that myself when I was in school a few years back. |

Note also that zMUD doesn't have a three-license limit any more. The software license belongs to you, for your use on any computer you want. You can use the same 7-day code on as many computers as you like.

Guinn: Zugg has categorically stated that U3/USB drives will not be supported until there is a defacto roaming licensing standard that is supported by the OS.
Fang: That is fine if he is the owner and sole user of those computers but he isn't other people use them and hence could use zMUD for free - illegal!
The best bit of advice so far is by shalimar which is to just use the trial, admin rights are still required for the initial install due to Armadillo. |

Yes, Taz, but there's no reason why he can't unlicense it before he leaves. I was just telling him that he needn't worry about the three-license limit.
And Zugg has also stated separately that he'd consider supporting U3 once Armadillo did. Armadillo now does, so he may consider it. |

I was under the impression that unlicensing has the effect of using up that license and it is not possible to use it again in order to license on another computer, perhaps I'm wrong, if I'm not that is why I mentioned about only being able to get so many licenses in a certain amount of time from the store.

That's only for the same computer - you can only use each code once on each computer, but you can use it on as many computers as you like for seven days.

Ah right, so in effect the only thing he needs is the admin rights for the install and he is set.
