Odd problem |
This problem started occuring during 6.16 two nights ago. I then upgraded to 6.40 in order to see if that would correct the problem.
The mud I play uses the @ symbol to denote color codes, and I have also aliased : to emote. I changed my quote character to the ` symbol instead of the ~ symbol long ago. Now, however, when I try to use the : alias, it no longer sends the emote command. Instead I get this:
: testing <- what I type
testing <- what I get
It strips the : out of the command, and just sends everything after it.
The ` is doing something similar.
For example, the following line sent to the mud:
`@rRed`@wWhite`@bBlue
will get changed to
`Red`White`Blue
It strips out the @ symbol, but leaves the ` intact in this case.
All my other aliases/triggers/whatever that use the quote character still seem to be working just fine. It is only when the alias contains color codes (the @) that problems occur.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
Dan

Are you sure your special characters are still set as you want them?
If I create a new character, set the quote-character to ' and type '@white'@red'@blue then @white@red@blue gets sent.
Have you changed/turned off the : special character?

I've had this problem since 5.x myself (now using 6.40)... I don't have it currently cause I haven't changed any of the special characters since it first started happening, but before, when I had, it got seriously foobar... backtick like he's saying was one of the worst :

No, I haven't changed the quote character to anything else and it is still active. That was the first thing I checked.
Anything I try to create now using the quote character is affected that way now too...the quote character usually stays and the symbol that is supposed to be ignored is stripped out.
Any alias I've looked up on the list since the problem started gets affected too. If I just use it, without looking it up, it has remained fine. |

I can't reproduce this either. However, if you have Expand Vars in the Script Parser section of the Preferences disabled, you don't need to use the quote character before an @ when entering it in the command line.
You could try to export all of your settings to text, recreate your character and then import the settings again to see if you still have the problem. Like Castaway said, just creating a new character and changing the quote character to ` doesn't seem to cause the problem.
