4.62 problem with %replace

Yes I know I know, its old, but I run a dos emulator on my handheld pc so I can actually use it for something and thats as high as the 16bit version goes.

So here's the deal my mud displays exits all jacked up and gives the mapper fits. (its LP) In full mode you get no room name, a desc, and
"There are four obvious exits: north, etc"
or
"There only obvious exit is: north"
or
"There are two obvious exits: north, etc "
"The obvious exits with doors are: north etc"

And in brief we get

Room name
[4:N,S,SW,E]
or with doors
[4:N,S(CL),E,W]

So I figure the only way to get the mapper to see all the exits is to be in brief mode & just set a trigger to replace the text before the mapper sees it right?

pattern ~[(%1):
command %replace (%1,%1,Exits)

when I see exits this happens

MUD [4: N,S,E,W]
ZMUD %replace (4,4,Exits)
MUD What?

so its outputting the trigger to the mud without proccessing the function. I know I've got the syntax wrong but the documentation is not very helpful on this
If someone could give me the correct syntax I'd appreciate it.

I suspect you want the #SUB command. Some of our mapping experts can probably give you better advice though.

Ok,
tried that, didn't work. thanks for the tip though. #SUB isn't in the documentation for 4.62 but it still works.

here's my trigger

trigger ^~[(%d):
command #SUB {~[Exits :}

here's what it did:

Happy Street
[2: n, s]
to
Happy Street
[Exits : n, s]

But the mapper didn't get it still.
Brief mode set to

Room Name
^~[Exits :

So I'm confused why its not registering.
Any help much appreciated.

By the way, I find it easier to map rooms+exits on LPMuds in 'long' mode, not in brief.. Just set the exits keyword to 'obvious exit' or something, and it should pick them up fine..

(Those were the days, 4.62 was the last version that actually mapped brief-mode at all.. ;)

Where have you put that "^~[Exits :" ? *will have to dig out 4.62*

Full does not work, one there usually aren't room titles in full, which means I have to map twice, annoying. in brief I get the name and exits then just "look" and catch the description,

the obvious exits thing does not work, due to doors, all door exits are placed on another line as in the third example on my first post which jolts the mapper. Also the room name is sometimes shown in full sometimes not, which also confuses it.

If someone knows how to make 4.62 recognise exits on more than one line that might work.

As to where I put the
Room Name
^~[Exits :
There are three config tabs in v4 one for full, brief and look. The..second, I believe, box down on the right side is for the exit string that is where I placed
^~[Exits :
The room name part is on a box to the left where you drag and drop the format. I don't believe this to be the problem though, I think the #SUB command doesn't beat the mapper to the text. It only changes what the user sees not zmud. It doesn't fool triggers either I tested that.

I'm doing this strictly because its got me annoyed now. I could map the whole thing with portal. (It deals with LP a little better than old zmud)It'd be a cheap map with no desciptions, but I could then map the whole thing into zmud by hand if I have to and let it pick up descriptions with the look commnd. I'd really prefer to avoid that though. I can't believe something as powerful (not to mention extremely complicated) as zmud can't handle a trigger just because it doesn't have letters in it. There's got to be a way around this.
