saving text for later use? |
I was just wondering if there was a way to save text or in this case clan talk so can be read later? Say I am afk for a few hours and want to catch up what was said in clan?
here is what would look like speechwise.
[CLAN]: Ged says, 'moats'.
Thanks |

Two ways to do this,
#log or #write.
#log will write everything to a log file.
#write will write only what you specify.
See the help files.

*smacks Talahaski around*
#CAP would be much better for what he wants!
try this:
#TR {^~[CLAN~]} {#CAP Clan}
What this does is capture all clan text to a seperate window. Note that this will only capture it all if it's sent as a single line.
If a clan talk can be split up on multiple lines, check my Channel capture script in the Finished scripts forum... This can very easily be modified for muds different than Achaea. |

If he's going to be AFK for hours at a time, a talkative clan could easily overfill his capture screen, including its scrollback buffer. Using a file, as Talahaski suggested, is probably better.

Why not do both?

Both might be the best method. It really does depend on how long capt_warf plans on being AFK.

child windows can have a larger memory if you select them to do so, on high-specced machines its not a problem. or, if you have a huge buffer on the main window, a simple #scroll [clan] will display everything with [clan] in it
Why oh WHY did I have pass door on... |

Intresting, I was not aware of that #scroll function. Guess we do learn something new each day.
But I don't suggest using too large of a scrollback buffer. Even on my machine which is not too old, I start to run into trouble if I use move than 5000 lines in the scrollback. Of course, I also have about 5 child windows open at any given time. *smiles*
