I've tried `~ and ~~~ but nither one allowed me to get the ~ to show. Asking for help I was told to come post here, so here I am. :) It is a U.S. keyboard not a UK keyboard. Any ideas?

Can you get it to show up in a new, blank session?

Also, if you open Windows Notepad and press the ~ key on your keyboard, does it show up in Notepad as a ~ or a ` character?

Press ESC to open a blank window. Then click on the command line at the bottom of the blank session and press the ~ key and see what is entered into the command line. If you enter ~~ and press Enter, you should see a single ~ character echoed to the session window.

That means you probably have a trigger that 'eating' the ~. A few things go to View -> Preferences -> Special Characters to confirm that your quote character is '~'. Second, try disabling all triggers (by clicking the gun in the lower right hand corner) and see if you still have the problem. If it works then you have to selectively re-enable all triggers to figure out what's 'eating' the character.
In the absolute worst-case you can try using #say %char(126). |

The %char return ASCII character associated with the number. 126 is the '~' character. #say is a zMUD command so if you included that in what you sent to the MUD it wouldn't understand. Try just typing #SAY %char(126) at the command prompt.

I'm a she :P and I'm only use ~ for ascii other people can use it and sadly show off that fact to me. :P So far I've had to do the work in note pad, then give it to someone else to copy paste, the area is an 90 room castle in all ascii art so doing it this way is a slow pain.

You need to turn on command-line parsing. The Ctrl-R key will toggle command line parsing on and off.

Or clicking the icon that looks like a PC next to the icon for triggers... which looks like a gun... in the lower right hand corner above your command line. Though, if you mud without a mouse like I do you'll find things like ctrl-R are very nice :D
And sorry for the sexual confusion... it is text after all |
