Invisible map

I've just gotten a new computer and had to get cmud instead of the zmud I know and love and have used for 3 years. I tried to load my zmud maps into cmud, and while it appears to have loaded, no map shows up. Is there some step I've missed? I'm not running the BETA version yet.

Were you using the 7.21 version of zMUD or an older version?

Also check the zone drop down on the off chance that it's blank. If you select a zone from the drop down does it display the map now? What about if you manually load the map using the File -> Open on the mapper window?

Yes, using 7.21 of zmud.

Zone drop down is blank. Going back into cmud today I kept getting error messages about the file I loaded with the maps too.

I tried both File -> New and File -> Open. Both had same result.

Also, is there a way to make the text wrap better when the mapper is open?

(Still haven't gotten my maps to work yet...)

You said the zone drop down is blank. What happens if you try select an entry from the zone drop list. Is the entire list blank, or is the displayed zone blank. Try and choose from the list and let us know what happens.

Also what do you mean by make the text wrap better?

You can set word wrap options by going to Options -> General. Then selecting the Session tab (on the left) and the Word Wrap tab (at the top).

I hope that helps.

Zone drop down list only shows the selection 'untitled' and doesn't expand any further.

Across the top of the mapper it shows the file name of my map file and it does the loading bar when I first open to that mud, that's why I say it acts like it accepted my map file, but other than those two things it doesn't seem to acknowledge that there's a map there. A friend mentioned that my map file may not be in the right format, but its in the format used by zmud (mdb).

For wrapping, whenever I have the mapper open, it seems the muds have a forced enter at the end of their lines, so it looks like this:

as if it was once a rough section of town, but things here seem
quiet. To the
west the harbor waters lap against the sea wall. To the south is a
large square

It takes up a lot of space doing that. I tried what you said to do, but that didn't fix it (or I don't understand how to use it properly which is entirely possible. Smile )

First thing to do is check and see if your game has some option for turning off game-side word wrapping.

If they don't, there's two things you can in CMud with forced returns sent from the game. Either you can just resize the CMud window so it's wider (probably 80 character width). You might have to detach the map window to do this.

If you don't want to do that, you can mess with the wordwrap settings, in Options > General > Session > Word Wrap. You'll want to turn OFF auto-wrap, and then possibly adjust other settings. For a game which wraps at 80 characters (this is most of them), basic settings would be word wrap ON, auto wrap OFF, wrap at 80, and wrap indent 3... This will wrap long lines that you send to the game but won't mess with lines the game sends to you (since they'll all already be less than 80)... UNLESS you show timestamps on the side, in which case you will need to increase increase the wrap column and mess around with it until it works.

Muds without the option to turn off server-side word wrap need a serious kicking. It's such a simple thing yet so vitally important.

Still trying to work out my map issues and was wondering if it would be at all helpful to that end if I loaded zmud onto this computer? I own two licenses to zmud, only one of which I've been using. Or should I just give up on cmud and go back to zmud?

(There is a very good reason I can't just remap, I'm just not at liberty to openly state what it is.)

Ok, finally got my maps to load, I can see all the zones on the drop down list, but now its telling me that its a read-only file and I can't do anything with it. I also get an error message when I try to close the mapper and when I close cmud. Thoughts?

It's probably because is trying to write to file and can't. Go to the file it's self (Typically in My Documents\My Games\CMUD\MudName\MapName.mdb), Right Click on the file and choos properties. Uncheck the Read Only Box.

Also, since it may help others in the future, it would be great to post exactly what the issue was with your map and how you resolved it.

Well, I really have no idea what the issue was actually. I deleted everything related to cmud and all the individual game files off this computer, reloaded it from the email link and then went back to the old computer and reloaded the map files by usb drive. I have no clue what the difference between that time and this was, except this time I made sure the mdb files were in the individual game files under cmud (as opposed to just a random file in My Documents) before I tried to load them to the mapper in the client. I've been told that shouldn't make a difference, but somewhere along the way my computer was pissed off at something I did originally. Razz

Oh, the second time I used the cmud file under Programs rather than the one in My Games.
