Problems connecting to a game |
I'm having trouble connecting to a certain game using this client. I don't really know a whole lot about the client, but what I have seen looks useful. There is very little info on connecting to the game I'm trying to use this client for, as they provide you with one to play it out of on their website. It seems that there could possibly be an issue with the port I'm using. One will connect me to their login screen, but it won't accept my login info. I can connect using mIRC fine, but zmud doesn't seem to want to take my username and password. While using mirc to connect I noticed that another port is being used at the same time. Is there any way to make zmud use both ports to connect, or am I already in over my head. Also, if somebody wants to try it out and see exactly what I'm seeing, PM me. I think zmud might be against tos for the game I'm talking about.

The problem seems to be with authenticating my login info. I don't know if there is a huge difference in zmud and mirc here, but it doesn't make sense to me why one will work and one won't. Is it plausible that I need another open port to do this with?

It's very interesting that mIRC will connect to telnet servers - I didn't know it could do that. But if a game is designed to be played using an IRC client, it's very unlikely that it'll work with zMUD. The telnet and IRC protocols are very different, and are rendered in very different ways. You'll see this if you connect to a MUD that does use telnet with an IRC client - much of the text fails to render or is rendered incorrectly. Similarly, mIRC sends certain things automatically like your username and a keepalive signal. Telnet doesn't require these things, so zMUD won't do them, which will cause you problems.
In short, though I've never heard of a MUD played using the IRC protocol, if this is one, zMUD won't be any use to you. I'd be interested to see this game, though - if you could post the address, we could check it out and also see if there's any way to solve your problems at the same time ;) |

You can't directly connect mIRC to it, that's the thing. The game wasn't designed to be run through mIRC either, but a client on their website. We made improvements. I was working toward something like zmud with mIRC, but this looks much much easier. It's strange. I'll PM you the details, as I would hate to piss off a game master. I also tried using cmud, and after turing things off I noticed that it enters <27>[2z before everything I enter. What's this?
