[2.36] Mud List

Was the list shortened in anyway?

I just got a system that had been dying back on its feet. And now that I am installing everything back on it.

Even after updating the local mud list online, i cannot find my MUD listed anymore.

Its one of the simultronic games: Gemstone IV (though labeled as Gemstone III when last it was included in the mud list)

Add if the list was shortened, why?

You might be connecting to the wrong instance. Zuggsoft has no control over the server data sent back, nor does it really have any idea what level of access you have with an account so it can't offer proactive errorchecking to ensure you aren't supposed to connect to the server you told it to.

On the other hand, you might have an invalid gamecode and while CMud has no problems connecting, the server doesn't understand/accept what it's saying.

For Dragonrealms, this is the information I use:

eaccess.play.net|DR <-- prime server
eaccess.play.net|DRX <-- plat server
eaccess.play.net|DRF <-- The Fallen server
eaccess.play.net|DRT <-- Test server

port 7900

For GSIV, the code in ZMud is GS4.

Nope, it's the same MUD list as always. Be sure you are clicking on the "MUD Connector" tab at the bottom to see the full list. By default you only see the 10 MUDs that paid for icons this year, and that changes every year (Simutronics used to pay for icons, but not in the past few years). But I'm pretty sure Gemstone is still in the full MUD list. Also, when viewing the full list, click the Get Updates option to download the latest data from the MUD Connector site. It's possible that Simutronics didn't add Gemstone IV to the MUD Connector list and just have GS3 in there.

Anyway, while I'm sure you were looking at the correct list, I wanted to make this post because I have gotten email from some people who think that the 10 icons on the main page are the complete MUD list and don't realize there is a MUD Connector tab at the bottom.

I am aware that the list is on that tab. And I did update it before posting here.

The simultronics games ARE missing from the list however. Neither GS3 nor GS4, or ever DragonRealms did i see.

I think that CMUD has troubles with muds without host\port\ip information. If you click on "Update all MUDs", you'll get the mudconnector.xml file in your CMUD folder. Although there will be no Gemstone III MUD in the list, you can find it in the mudconnector.xml:
Code:
- <mud>
-

- GemStone III

- <codebase>
- [Custom] v 4.02

 </codebase>
- <old_address>
-

 </old_address>
- <host>
-

 </host>
- <port>
-

 </port>
- <ip>
-

 </ip>
- <www>
- http://www.play.net/gs3/?refer=MUDCONNECT

 </www>
 <msp>NO</msp>
 <mxp>NO</mxp>
 <last-modified>10/04/2002</last-modified>
 <created-date>12/1989</created-date>
- <desc>...

I think this is the root of the problem. I saw several other MUDs in the .xml with missed host\port\ip data as well.

Yes, that is true. If there isn't any host information in the list from the MUD connector, then CMUD doesn't add it to it's list either, because there is no way for CMUD to connect to anything without a host name. Sounds like Simutronics must have edited their record on MUD Connector to remove the specific host information because of their specific login mechanism.

Unfortunately, I think this will also effect zMUD, so someone might want to let Simutronics know that by doing this they are preventing a lot of potential players from even learning about their MUDs. No wonder their player base is dropping. I've tried to convince them that they should really have a top-ten icon in zMUD/CMUD especially because of their proprietary login mechanism (which zMUD and CMUD support), but the people who used to care about zMUD/CMUD no longer seem to work at Simutronics, so I no longer have any contacts there.

I should also point people to the article: http://www.zuggsoft.com/page.php?file=zmud/simutronic.htm which also describes how to setup zMUD with Simutronics games. Even though the article is for zMUD, it still applies to CMUD. I'll try to update that to include the GS4 entry for GemStone IV.
