2 mapper problems |
It's me again guys. I'm still having 2 problems with the mapper.
Cmud Pro 2.18, and Vista.
Each time I close Cmud and reopen it, and turn on the mapper mode in mapper, it asks me to reconfigure it each and every time. It doesn't store it across sessions.
Also, there are 6 areas on my map, when I try to run out of the area, if the last exit of the area to the outside world is an "out" exit, it stop in this room. retying the same #walk command will run me out of the area without a problem.
I've tried checking for anything trigger or alias related to out, checked mapper setting, just doesn't make any sense.
anyone have any ideas/suggestions, please? Thanks. |

Sounds like Vista cannot save your configuration. When you install CMUD on Vista, you *must* be sure to accept the default file locations. You must put your "Data Files" (the second file location question in the installer) into the My Documents\My Games\CMUD area. If you set the datafiles to be the same as the Program Files, then Vista won't let you write to that directory.
You can get around this "problem" by right-clicking the CMUD icon and selecting Properties and then in the Compatibility section you can use "Always run as Admin", but that really isn't a very good idea since it just circumvents the Vista security, and it will also cause Vista to prompt you each time to run CMUD to elevate it to Admin status.
In any case, CMUD is trying to save your mapper settings to the same directory as the *.PKG settings file for the session, so you need to be sure you have full read/write access to that directory.
For your question about "out" exits you'll have to give some more detailed information on that for more help. Specifically we need to see how the "out" direction is defined in your CMUD session (View/Directions). |

If you don't have your "out" exit linked to a room and you are not in map creation mode, the mapper will stop at that room when you attept to move in the "out" direction. if you are in map creation mode, a room will be added in that direction.

I'm not sure what more information you require?
I have an area called Well.
The room that links to the main area Magic is room 13918
The room that it links to in magic is 1078.
To get into Well from Magic you go south, to get out you type out.
The room properties I have it as up, which types out.
If I'm anywhere in the area, I type go home, it will stop at room 13918, if I type go home a second time, it will finish it's initial path.
This is the same for all 6 areas so far, except the entrance/exits ... ones enter crypt, my exit from there is west which types out.
etc.etc.etc.... I have probably 200 separate areas mapped, many with different types of exits, pull ring is another one i can think of, I type west, it pulls the ring which drops me into another room, and I just continue onward...
It's only the out exits which are giving me problems.
If you need anything specific, please let me know. |

You can create custom exits using the "other" scheme. Just create the link manually and fill in the target room by clicking on the # that you find on the upper right-hand corner of the properties box. Enter the target room number and click OK. Then in the other field for that link enter the word "out". When the mapper develops a speedwalk that takes you through that room, it will enter "out" into to the stream as required.

That's exactly how I have it set up now.
In some areas, this works fine.
In *EVERY* area that is set up like this to use "out" as a command, it pauses in this room until I tell it to go again. |

On the Other tab in Room Properties, check to see if "Pause when speedwalking" is ticked. That will certainly cause the pausing you are seeing.

Tried, neither room had that tick.
I tried adding force entry, that didn't help.
Thanks for the try Matt. |
