CMUD and CMUDPro v2.20 BETA version released |
I think I've gotten the first test build of CMUD 2.20 ready. I have uploaded it to the Download area. I've only built the regular CMUD for now...not CMUDPro. This is the first time I have run my build scripts with Delphi 2007 and Vista, so I want to make sure it works, and then I'll build CMUDPro.
I'm heading to dinner, so I haven't had a chance to update the Version History yet, but I will update that when I get back from dinner.
Please let me know if this build runs on your computer. Right now I'm not interested in detailed bug reports (not until I update the version history). The highest priority is to see if this installer and build actually runs for everyone.
Note that I have done all of this testing and building on Windows Vista and have not tried it on Windows XP yet. So that is the other thing I want to verify. Please let me know how it works (or doesn't). I'll continue working tonight on any quick fixes that are needed to get this running. |

Works on Windows Server 2003 x64 with SP2, which is kinda like XP SP3 ;)
What I did notice is that it installed itself into the CMUDPro directory |

Both CMUD and CMUDPro use the same registry key to determine where to install, so if you previously installed CMUDPro, then it would pick up that directory for the CMUD installer. So that is normal. CMUD and CMUDPro also share the same registry keys for determining where the data files are stored.
Oh, and I will try to remember after dinner to modify the installer to allow it to work on Win2000 so people can test it there too. |

I had no problems with installation and import of old zMud settings on my system. I installed to a second directory so I have 2.18 for the regex speed testing. Everything ran smooth until I found my first crash...
Win XP SP2
I was slightly concerned about how much information is available for user display regarding a crash. I am not sure you really want to have tabs such as the disassembled code available. I brefly perused madExcept's site some time ago and it seemed they supported controlling of what information was captured. If they don't actually support capturing but not displaying some information then you might want to suggest it to them. |

Yes, I had some of those tabs turned off in Windows XP and when I updated MadExcept for Vista I just forgot to turn them off again. I'll also need to check to see if the Send Bug Report HTTP server information is set correctly.

It seems that you included the PCRE dll from sourceforge in the installation. I did a quick check of it in my test program and the configuration reports as 7.0 instead of the current 7.6 Also a second quick check shows that it doesn't support the PRUNE pattern verb used by the subregex routine.

Upgrading from 2.18 to 2.20 on Windows XP Pro SP2 works fine.

Upgraded from 2.18 Pro on XP SP2 and everything was able to be installed fine. One small hiccup was that not uninstalling 2.18 first caused both to be installed and then when I manually went into the windows uninstall to uninstall 2.18 it deleted the 2.20 icons so I ended up installing 2.20 again after the 2.18 uninstall.
So far I've noticed some button weirdness but I think that's because there are some corrupted settings. Upon attempting to export my package and then reimport it in a clean new package has generated an error. I'll post separately about the error. |

Vijilante: You are correct. I thought I had renamed the DLL file back to the way it was, but apparently the DLL was locked at the time and my rename failed. So I'll fix this in another release tonight along with the madExcept fixes.
Anything you can tell me about the crash? Was it a "show-stopper" or just something that happened when you were randomly messing around with the new version? |

OK, I have uploaded a new version of CMUD v2.20. So, if you downloaded 2.20 before this message was posted, please download it again. I have fixed the madExcept crash dump system so that you can report crashes properly again. I also modified the installer so Windows 2000 will be allowed. If you can try to install and run CMUD on Windows 2000, let me know if it works or not.
I have also uploaded the 2.20 Beta version of CMUD Pro. The 2.18 version of CMUDPro had a bug with the AutoUpdate code that would download CMUD instead of CMUDPro. So, to upgrade CMUD Pro, you need to manually download and install the 2.20 version. Once you have 2.20 installed, future updates should work properly from within CMUDPro.
I have also updated the Version History so take a look at that to see everything that has changed and what bugs I have tried to fix. I certainly haven't fixed all of the bugs yet, but hopefully the most serious bugs are squashed.
Please start reporting bugs from v2.20 in separate forum threads. Remember to start the bug report with [2.20] so that we will know what version of CMUD you are using. You can use Tech's Online bug list to help determine what bugs have already been reported.
I am particularly interested in bugs in the new Package Editor since that is where most of the changes have been. Also, bugs with the docking and toolbar system are important. I can't ensure that all existing layouts will load perfectly into the new version...there might be some issues where you need to tweak your layout a bit. But hopefully nothing major.
Unless there is something really serious wrong with this version, it will probably be several weeks before the next update. I want to get the first version of the MyMuds.com web site released so that I can add support for that into CMUD to allow you to save your sessions on the web site. |

Oops, sorry...forgot to hit the "Approve" button to put the Download link for CMUD Pro back in the Downloads area. It's there now.

Cool, thanks for testing that for me! I'm not going to officially support Windows 2000, but it's nice to know that it works. Should be good news for people running CMUD in various emulators too.

Any hope for a small step version to fix some of the more major bugs found? Foremost in my mind are the delete bug and the create a multi-state button bugs. |

Sorry but no. You'll have to wait a couple of weeks. I only get into the weekly beta release mode towards the end of a beta cycle. Otherwise I burn out and go crazy because there is always "one more bug" and everyone has their own opinion on what bugs are major and what bugs are not.

Please don't use this thread for posting bug reports! Reports should go in a new topic with the version number you're using in the title. Misplaced reports will be moved.
