CMUD wishlist - function library/package library |
This just occurred to me with the thread asking for a #SAYADD command. There are often nifty things we can do, that are too complex for the basic user, yet still nice for them if they could use it. Obviously though, we can't keep asking you, Zugg, to add new commands for us.
The ability then, to create a library of functions (or even just a single function) and publish it to a similar medium such as something like a defined section of the package library, for everyone to browse and perhaps use if they like the look of it, may be a worthwhile feature. |

You can always just use the package library. It's not like there's a minimum size for packages on there.
I still reckon a forum for CMUD scripts, like for zMUD scripts, is a good idea. On the wishlist is a cmud:// protocol for use inside browsers to let you view a particular package in the package library. When that's added, at the least, I think it'd be a good idea to add a forum for them. |

Yeah, as Fang mentioned, you can still use the package library. I'm still working on the issue with a cmud:// protocol and having some sort of CMUD scripts forum. The issue is that the Package Library requires you to be a registered CMUD user, and I want to maintain that perk for registered users. There isn't any way to check your CMUD license from the forum to let you view a package, so that would sort of defeat the purpose and would allow non-registered people to see the package contents (and then copy/paste the XML into CMUD).
Yes, it's true that I can't stop people from posting their scripts to the forums or to just email them to each other. But I was hoping that the Package Library would give *some* incentive to people to actually buy CMUD instead of just using a crack. It's one thing to send a script to a new user who is evaluating CMUD, but we all know that there are plenty of people using hacked versions out there.
Perhaps this goes back to the idea of a yearly "membership" for an upgraded zuggsoft.com forum account. I could allow people with paid "member" accounts on the forum to view packages and advanced stuff like this. Still just not sure how I'd implement it and restrict it to just member accounts.
So anyway, this is on the back burner until I can figure out some of these issues. If people just bought CMUD (and zMUD) licenses instead of using cracks, then I wouldn't have these kind of headaches. So yes, those pirates are ruining it for everyone else. It seems to be an unfortunate fact of life these days. |
