New to zmud and looking for info

Why hello all. I have finally done it i have cast of the likes of WoW,Eq,eq2,CoH,CoV,EvE,and a dozen more games i cant recall at the moment. A good friend of mine has shown me Zmud and i instantly fell in love. Well it seems i am a bit behind on the times and am in need of some help. Growing up on D&D and paper and pencile and those beloved dice i have collected over the years(showing my age).I would love to learn all about this new wonder i have be draged into.Any information guids and the likes would be greatly appreciated. we are playing on a smaug based DBZ mud and it is much fun. the DM in me wants to learn how this works so i can bring my own world to life for others to play and enjoy.Wish i would have keep up with my TI or comador 64 but that was long ago,and seems worlds away(showing my age again).Thank you in advance for any who respond, and sorry for spelling/grammer error i could not find the spell checker.

Welcome to the forums, Rease :)

The support files are a good place to start. The zMUD book chapter articles are pretty useful. The Scripting topic has further explanations of some of the concepts - triggers, aliases and so on. If you have any questions or have a problem that you want zMUD to solve but don't know what to do, feel free to ask here on the forums. There are lots of people around to give scripting advice.

Also if you're just getting into it. I would recommend going straight to CMUD. CMUD is the next generation mud client from ZuggSoft designed for XP and Vista with several great new features in place and several more to come.

Welcome! Start by playing a few different MUDs. The icons on the main zMUD/CMUD startup screen are a good place to start. You can also go to sites like www.mudconnect.com or www.topmudsites.com to learn more about what's already out there. Playing different MUDs is one of the best ways to learn about the different code bases (like smaug). The MUD Connector site also has some links to the various code bases and some forums on running your own MUD server. Building your own MUD can be rewarding, but it's also a lot of work. Just take it slow and don't jump into the water if it's too deep...it would be bad if you went to fast and drowned ;)

There is a *lot* of depth to be found in MUDs if you look for it. Like with any community, there are good people and bad people. But I find the percentage of really good and helpful people to be really high in the MUD community. Maybe because the only people who are left playing MUDs are us "old folks".

And Tech is correct...you should start with CMUD. zMUD is pretty much frozen and if you get any bad habits from sloppy zMUD scripting, they can be tough to break. Better to start in CMUD and just learn it instead since that is where all of the new development is happening.

(Oh, and if you use Firefox 2.x for your web browser, you get automatic as-you-type spellchecking in any web text box. I just love that feature!)
