Mapper taking longer when changing area and searching |
First, I have a map thats over 6000 rooms. I'm using 1.26 and vista ultimate
When I go from one zone to another, sometimes it takes up to 20 seconds or so for the mapper to change areas. Also, when I use the "find" feature in the mapper, and search for a word in the description, it takes maybe 40 seconds at times to find it. I can understand this, but the problem is, while it's doing the searching, my interface is frozen. So when it finishes it's search, I get 40 seconds or more worth of scrolling that shoots by, as it has buffered all this stuff. Anyone know any settings I can change to help this?

I have a map 1/4th that size but I don't have an issue with that. I'd say the first thing I'd suggest is to compress your map. There's an option on the mapper menu (but I'm not in front of my client). Hopefully that helps a bit.

my map is about 40000 rooms with version 1.26, xp. i have no idea why your map is taking that long to process, as my is instantaneous.

Sometimes the processing time is considerably longer based on the name of the room/thing you are searching for. If for example in Avalon you do a search for the room name, "In a field." You can expect to sit back and twiddle your thumbs for a while. For that matter I don't even want to think about doing the same thing for a wilderness room in Achaea!
If on the other hand the room name is unique or close to it the processing is relatively instantaneous as Chris said.
That all aside. Have you compacted your map lately/ever?
:Edited for stupidity sake. *mental note read the person's post better before posting*: |

Download the MDAC Compress and Repair program from the http://www.zuggsoft.com/data page and see if that helps. However, usually speed problems like this are more related to having a bad version of MDAC/ADO, and I have no idea what changes Microsoft has made to the MDAC DLL in Vista.
