zMud bluescreen on sound card driver |
Okay, so I've been away for a long while...
I decided to pop in and see if any of my old Battletech MUX friends were still online. Fire up zMud 6.62 under XP pro and I get a bluescreen on PSA805.SYS (my sound card driver, Philips Aurilium external USB sound card). Remove 6.62 and install latest (and hopefully greatest) 7.05 but I get the same bluescreen immediately after the splash screen loads and before my character select window appears.
Thinking that I have a system driver problem I start testing on my other apps and games. Run through approximately 40 of these (directX, open GL, windows sound subsystem) without any errors.
Anybody have any helpful advice? |

Aight, I've isolated this a bit further...
My crash only occurs when I have TeamSpeak running (all the time) and attempt to load zMud.
Apparently there can be only one. If anybody has any insights on how to rectify this, I'm all ears.
Thanks,

Don't run TeamSpeak :P Either that or see if there is an update for it. Also see if there is an update for your SoundCard drivers
Since I am not sure what TeamSpeak and I don't use this option this is a wild guess
open zmud.ini in a text editor and change
OldDriver=0
to
OldDriver=1
and
Sound=1
to
Sound=0 |

If the support for the Aurilum card is as abysmal as the Philips support for their other soundcards, it is likely purely the fault of the soundcard driver. I made the mistake of purchasing the Philips Rhythmic Edge a few years ago and they refused to ever to put out a working driver for WinXP. Quite sad. Not running TeamSpeak is likely your only option short of using a better soundcard.
