Disappearing Triggers, Aliases, etc. |
Hello,
I keep losing triggers or they revert to the old trigger or alias. I can create 8 triggers today, have them exist all day, then when I start zMUD tomorrow they are gone.
I am running 7.05 on Windows XP SP2, but this issue happened on SP1 as well. I have tried deleting zmud.ini and having it be recreated and also tried uninstalling zMUD and reinstalling.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? This is incredibly frustrating.
Thank you. |

Make sure you are saving your settings when you exit.
If that doesnt fix it uncheck the use layout and change the layout file name in char properties. then rebuild your layout and save it under the new name.
(Only one layout file can be used per char so if you are sharing layout this could be a problem)
If that doesnt work follow the directions here http://www.zuggsoft.com/zmud/migrating.htm |

This also sounds like the file settings are stored in is flagged as read-only. This frequently occurs when you restore a backup from a CD. Please check the state of this as well.

Thank you for the suggestions, but none of them work.
I use one shared trigger file for all my chars. Someone suggested using seperate files for each character. Can anyone show me where I can read on how to do that?
Will I have to "load" 5 different files manually if I am playing 5 chars on the same MUD? Right now all my triggers are in the file <mud_name.mud>.
Thank you. |

It sounds like you are using an Inherited settings file only. Changes to settings normally go into the Primary settings file, so if you don't have a Primary file then new settings won't be saved. Settings files are loaded automatically when the character is opened, so you won't have to load them manually even if you have several characters open.
To set the filenames used by a character, select the character and then click the Edit button instead of the Connect button. Go to the Files tab. You can type in new filenames to start with new settings files or you can browse (folder icon) to select an existing file. You can also copy files while browsing, so I often make a copy of the settings from one character then rename it.
This is covered in the helptopic Edit Character (Files Information). You can reach it from the helpfile Contents page. Open the Getting Started booklet, then the Character Database booklet, and select Files information. |

Thank you very much. I am copying (primary) files from one character to another and it appears to now be saving the changes I make to each individual file (renamed for each charaacter).
I will let you know if the problem reoccurs with using individual files.
Thank you again for all your help. |
