forum page size

What's up with the size of the webpages that the forum generates? I'm showing, for example, that the first page of the general forum message index is like 110kB. That's insane! The weather.com page for my location w/ all the fancy weather maps and such is only a third of that! For goodness sakes, viewing just 10 forum topics uses 1mb of bandwidth! That's like 7 minutes on 28.8!

Hmm 110kb? Thats not too big, and is only 10 % of 1mb of bandwidth

110k is very large for a simple text listing w/ a few navigation buttons. Like I said, that is about 3 times as large as a very graphical weather.com listing that contains much more information. Try viewing some comparable WebPages, and seeing how much they weigh in at, and I'm sure you will come to agree that 110k for the forum index, or 60k for a single small topic is very large. And yes, 110k is about 1/10 MB, which means viewing as few as 10 forum posts could use up a MB of bandwidth. Seven minutes of downloading just to read 10 small text blurbs is pretty poor performance, IMHO. And, as far as the time required to generate the page, I don't think that is at all relevant in this case. It is very clear that the long page load times are due to their inordinate size, not the server-side formatting.

The forum code is not done by Zuggsoft, it is free code done by Snitz Communications. If you have a problem with the way it generates web pages take it up to them.

Also, this is not the place to steam off your apparent anger with Zuggsoft (which still baffles me since I simply don't use or deal with things that I don't like.) As you can see this forum category is called zMUD Support and the other forums are called AC Explorer Discussion, zMapper Discussion, and DoctorZ Discussion. I don't see any Zuggsoft Bashing or Zuggsoft Discussion forum.
