Command Character not working

I'm new to zMud and am having trouble using zMud commands. My command character is set to # (the default) but it seems whenever i use a zMud command it sends it to the MUD instead of executing the command. How would I fix this?

Thanks,
Mal

make sure you don't have a red X covering the computer icon in the lower right corner.

EDIT: if you don't, try checking your Preferences to see if you accidentally turned off the use of the # character. If you tell ZMud not to use that character, it won't use it.
