Program lag?

I'm having some trouble with almost every version of zmud that I've tried. The problem is, when I'm fighting and a lot of spam comes through from attacks/counter-attacks/whatnot, the entire program comes to a screeching halt. It's not the connection because when this happens and I type things into the command prompt, the characters don't show up until 5-6 seconds later and I essentially can't do a thing.

I've tried this in versions 6.53 and 6.40 and I'm told it happens with some versions of 6.16, although I haven't confirmed this, but it didn't happen in the 6.16 version that I used before (I think there are two different ones?).

I suppose it may be because my triggers are all firing and the program has a lot to deal with, but a friend of mine does just fine and he actually has his triggers do more than mine. Unless, of course, variable setting is extremely taxing to the program, which I doubt it is. If anyone has any ideas about what may cause this, if it's some setting that I hav to turn on/off or anything, please let me know, thanks a lot!

Try looking for and installing the latest version of your network card's drivers.

Well I've tried testing it on two different computers I have in two completely different places. One is a 2.4GHz P4 with 512mb rdram and some Dell motherboard I think. Network card is just a plain Intel 10/100. Video is ATi Radeon 9700. On the other comp, I have 2.6GHz, 1GB ddr (second fastest type) ram, and SR-7 motherboard from...don't remember the company =P. I think the network card is also an Intel 10/100.

I'll try updating the network drivers and try some other things out and let you guys know how it goes, thanks for the replies so far!

Well I figured out what the problem was. I have a bunch of guage/buttons at the top of my mud (roughly 30) and once I turned those off, the lag stopped. I guess something changed in the way zmud did the guages at some point that made em take a lot more to deal with than they did in the old version 6.16 I had. Ah well, thanks for the help guys!!
